our principles.

we believe…

sustainable living.

That all founders of a PFP business are able to sustain their role through a salary that promotes a good quality of life.

people centred.

that a PFP Business values and involves all of its stakeholders.

social value.

a PFP Business puts processes in place to measure and report its Social Value.

circular economy.

a PFP Business aims to build a PFP supplier chain to ensure a circular economy.

what we’re about

profit for purpose® is a way of doing business where profits are reinvested for social good.

Profit for purpose businesses aim to make profit and reinvest that profit into social good.

Profit for purpose is not about an organisations legal structure, nor about the amount of money that they reinvest. it is about the social value that is created as a result of their work.

who we work with.

universities.

We have been working with academics and staff in universities for the last 15 years, our Social Enterprise Awareness Programme introduces the potential to start-up or spin-out a social enterprise in partnership with the university.

For those that go onto to establish a social enterprise, we provide our tailored Business Development Programme, through a series of interactive workshops that support the new business to set up their preferred legal structure, establish their governance, create their business model, carry out market research to prove the evidence of need to potential investors, forecast social return on investment, prepare financial projections and develop an income generation plan.  We even support the writing of funding applications to get the business started.

We work closely with universities to help manage the transition of the social enterprise out of the university which includes providing an options appraisal, transition plan, IP due diligence, transfer of assets, HR expertise (including TUPE), digital set up and operations plan for the new business.

For universities who are interested in accessing our training, we offer our Social Entrepreneur in Residence training specifically tailored for those working in commercialisation, knowledge exchange and impact and includes our Accounting for Social Value Practitioner Training.

We are proud to have developed social enterprise spin out pathways at Sheffield University, Salford University, Lancaster University, Queens Belfast and the University of Manchester.  With three more universities coming on board this academic year.

NHS.

We are experts in Health Social Enterprise, having supported the development of the Right to Request, alongside the government’s Public Services Mutuals Support Programme.  We sat on the Social Enterprise Sounding Board (DoH) and contributed towards the Public Services (Social Value) Act.  We were one of the first providers to support the spin-out of social enterprises from the NHS and were integral in the initial Social Value Commissioning Models.

Our Accounting for Social Value framework has emerged from our NHS work and includes the development of Social Return on Investment (SROI), Social Accounting and Auding, The Local Multiplier Effect and alignment with ESGs.  We developed the Social Value Quality Mark and have produced over 30 Social Value Reports within the Health and Wellbeing sector.

Through our work with Trustech at Manchester NHS Foundation Trust we developed our NHS spin-out pathway, which supported our largest spin-out EMQN.

We work closely with NHS Trusts to help manage the transition of the social enterprise out of the Trust which includes providing an options appraisal, transition plan, IP due diligence, transfer of assets, HR Expertise (including TUPE) digital set up and operations plan for the new business.

We have supported spin-outs and start-ups at acute, primary and community level and provide specialist personalisation support (integrated budgets) and procurement alignment to our clients, including supporting MedTech and Digital Health.

VCSE sector.

We work closely with infrastructure support agencies operating within the community, to provide start-up and scale and growth to the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector.

We provide our Professional Development Programme for Social Entrepreneurs to infrastructure organisations so that they can feel confident in supporting the sector.

In addition, we provide a range of workshops aimed at the community sector which include training on legal structures, accounting for social value, income generation, developing a business plan, digital development, volunteer management, HR, accounts and finance and governance.

corporate sector.

We work with a range of industries to help them enhance their Social Value work, our in-house Social Entrepreneurs in Residence support the development of Corporate Social Responsibility, Social Enterprise Spin-Outs, Employee Volunteering and Accounting for Social Value.

We support our corporate clients to develop social value supplier chains, by enabling partnerships through our Profit for Purpose Network and manage Social Impact Bonds, ensuring that Social Value can be evidenced, calculated and reported.

We provide expertise for Public Sector Procurement, in the development of Social Value Frameworks, along with Accounting for Social Value training for staff.

impact investors.

We work with funders, social investors and charitable trusts to develop Accounting for Social Value Frameworks, including the monitoring and evaluation of grants, social investment packages and alternative giving.

We provide links to our programmes in universities, the NHS and community sector and promote the development of circular economies.

Feel like you don’t fit into any of these? We can still work together, social enterprise rarely fits so easily into boxes so get in touch and see how we can make change together.
