Social Enterprise Development Programme

for organisations.

The aim of the programme is to help develop and prepare prospective social enterprise organisations to move from the earliest stages of development and transform their ideas into viable products and services.

The workshops cover: Social Business Model Canvas, Creating a Value Proposition (Market Analysis), Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement, Governance and Legal Structures, Accounting for Social Value, Resources Required and Financial Projections, Developing an Income Generation Strategy

Workshop 1: Value and Values in Business Today
Over the last few years there has been an increased interest in the ‘added’ value of services delivered within all sectors, but what does the ‘added’ bit mean? 

At the same rate, the general public has become more interested in ‘Values,’ in the ‘ethical purchase’ and the ‘ethical organisation.’ 

By the end of this workshop, you will understand the importance of Value and Values within today’s marketplace and how you can embed them into your organisation to enhance your Unique Selling Point. 

Workshop 2: Stakeholder Mapping and Valuation
We start this workshop exploring the role of stakeholders and their importance to social enterprise.  We consider the different types of stakeholders and work through the stakeholder mapping process. Engaging with your stakeholders is an essential part of building your business, this enables a better understanding of your value proposition to the market.

By the end of this workshop, you will have developed a stakeholder map and engagement plan along with tools and resources to carry out the engagement process so that you can develop your value proposition.

Workshop 3: Legal Structures for Social Enterprise
In this workshop we consider the economic landscape as a whole and look at the three sectors of the economy.  We take a look at the type of legal structures that are available to the whole economy and analyse the challenges and benefits in adapting these legal structures for Social Enterprise. 

By the end of this workshop, you will have an understanding of the current economic landscape in relation to social and ethical business along with raised awareness of the range of legal structures available.

Workshop 4: Income Generation for Social Enterprise
Social and ethical businesses are currently faced with a number of economic challenges with the reduction of public sector contracts, tougher trading conditions, and increased competition for funding and less people donating.  In this workshop we will explore different income generation possibilities available, to develop your income potential over four key areas: Trading, Commissioning, Funding and Social Investment. 

By the end of this workshop, you will have raised awareness of methods available to you in order to generate sustainable income. 

Workshop 5: Accounting for Social Value
Understanding your organisations social value and impact is an excellent method of demonstrating to your stakeholders the value that your services have to them, the local community and society as a whole.  This workshop aims to introduce delegates to social value and impact, providing practical knowledge to understand and communicate your value and impact to society.  During this workshop we will explore the history and context of social value and find out more about current Social Accounting frameworks. 

By the end of this workshop, you will have gained an understanding of the terms social value and impact, the frameworks available to you to help calculate, measure, and communicate your social value and how they can be used to promote your organisation/project and develop sustainability. 

Workshop 6: Writing a Social Enterprise Business Plan
In this workshop we introduce you to the Social Enterprise Business Canvas and explore the elements of the plan that are relevant to social and ethical businesses.  We will provide a structure for the business plan itself and discuss the key parts of the plan that will improve your chances of generating sustainable income. 

By the end of this workshop, you will have an understanding of business planning for social and ethical businesses as well as success measures for future sustainability. 


The cost of this programme is £6,000 per organisation – or £1,000 per person.
